BJW Thursday Evening Track Sessions, Starts 8th May

The Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers are pleased to announce a series of twelve track nights at the Bournemouth Velodrome (BH10 4EP) starting in May. These sessions are being promoted for members of the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers but will be open to all riders, no matter what club they belong to. The series aims to fill the gap between the accreditation events, aimed at beginners and novices, and the revamped Friday Night Track League races.

Each session will accommodate riders with a variety of ability levels and will include drills for the “fast boys and girls” and for those looking for something a bit less demanding. A structured warm-up will be followed by quality coaching sessions and over the course of twelve nights it is hoped that all track disciplines can be covered, including:

• Flying 200m effort
• Kilo
• Match Sprint
• Team Sprint
• Individual Pursuit
• Team Pursuit
• Italian Pursuit
• Madison Race, including hand-slings
• Elimination Race
• Scratch Race
• Points Race

The coach will be Richard Eastham, a qualified and accredited British Cycling Level 2 Track Coach and is currently working towards his Level 3 Track Coaching certificate. Richard is a member of the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers cycling club and has been an active racing cyclist for nearly 20 years. He has won several medals in national track events and has taken part in elite road races across the UK, France and Ireland. Now aged 39, Richard competed on various occasions on the road and track against Mark Cavendish, Chris Hoy, David Millar and Bradley Wiggins when he was younger. They were always much better than him.
A minimum of 8 riders are needed for each session. All sessions cost £8. Hire bikes, should they be required, cost £3. Sessions start at 6.30pm through until 8.30pm on the following dates:

• May 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th
• June 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th
• July 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th

We hope to see you there!

Important Changes To BJW Club Night

There has been some pretty poor attendance at our club nights on Wednesdays (at Colehill Sports & Social Club) for some time now. At a recent BJW committee meeting we discussed this (including two regulars of the club nights) and the decision was taken to change things around a bit.
The club nights will move from Wednesday nights to TUESDAY nights.
After club time trials held at Furzehill riders, officials, marshalls and others will be invited to go on to THE HORNS INN, Burts Hill, Colehill, Wimborne BH21 7AA. This will become the new club night. Hopefully other BJW members perhaps not involved with the TT will join us.
Some of us went there after yesterdays TT and there is a large car park, plenty of room for us, was pretty quiet and a good place to chat.
On other nights when the Tuesday evening club TTs are held on other courses people may decide to go on to another venue: The Vine after Pamphill TTs being a perfect example.
After the summer and the TT season we aim to continue with club nights every TUESDAY evening at The Horns Inn, Colehill from 8pm to 10pm.
In summary:
Club nights at THE HORNS INN (after Furzehill TTs):
Tuesday 15th April
Tuesday 17th June
Tuesday 24th June
Tuesday 15th July
Tuesday 5th August
Then EVERY Tuesday from 26th August.
At THE VINE (after Pamphill TTs) (limited parking, very limited room in the bar! – you’ll know if you’ve ever been there, we may need to spill over in to the garden):
Tuesday 6th May
Tuesday 20th May
Tuesday 3rd June
Tuesday 19th August
We hope these changes make sense to you and hope to see some of you there.
