11 BJW riders and one guest braved the winds for the Club 10 TT on the P311 Moortown – Sopley course last night. Full results here.
Nick Jones took the 50 points with an impressive 22:58, exactly the same time as on this course last week. So probably an improvement considering the Fresh SW headwind on the way out to Sopley.
Cliff Rowe recorded 25:59 on his gravel bike shod with 42mm knobbly tyres.
All of the C league riders recorded close times, with Chris Simpson second in the overall league standings at this stage of the season – the points system rewards attendance and consistency at all rider levels.
Next week is an 8.5M test on the P429 at Pamphill.
BJW would like to extend a warm welcome to more new members for the 2018 season.
Michelle Walter (2nd Claim)
The BJW Youth MTB rides have been well-supported over the winter months and after several weeks of wet, cold and muddy rides, the most recent session was blessed with good weather. Blue skies and warm weather made a welcome change! The riders have now progressed from the starter slopes of Turbary Common and are now tackling the big, bad trails of Canford Heath. This new terrain includes some bespoke downhill (DH) dirt trails and some fast, single-track cross-country (XC) routes. All young riders with a well-maintained off-road bike are welcome.
The details for the for the final two sessions for Saturday 3rd March and Saturday 17th March are as follows:
Start/Finish Point: End of Francis Avenue, near Knighton Heath Golf Course
Sessions Start: 10h00 / Session Close: 11h30

We had another good turnout at the second of the BJW off-road youth rides on 18th November, when 14 young riders made their way from the Bournemouth Velodrome to Turbary Common, where they tackled the gravel single track, the tree roots of the woodland section and the muddy puddles of the trails.
After threading their way safely through the residential streets, the riders explored traffic-free Turbary Common, a readymade mountain bike playground with a range of surfaces and terrains.
Riders have been developing their skills and techniques and having great fun in the process. The cold weather deterred many from taking part in the third event on 2nd December but with one more event before the end of the year, on 16th December there’s another chance for riders to get involved.
After Christmas the series resumes on 6th January 2018. Contact Richard Eastham on 017186 299 909 for more details
This year’s seasonal Mince Pie Evening will be held at The Vine, Pamphill on Tuesday 19th December.
All members and guests welcome.
90 Riders signed on for the 2nd of this winter’s BJW Reliability series. Warmer than for previous 100km rides; by the end most riders were smiling but had found the ride a challenge.
Main talking points over the excellent Bacon Rolls and Cake were:
Very greasy roads. An exceptionally greasy / oily section at Norden near Corfe caught out a number of riders and was the cause of one DNF.
The change in wind direction during the morning from South to North west meant a lot of the ride was into a headwind!
A number of riders signed back in after the time limit. Well done to all who finished the ride.
The Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers 2017 Prize Presentation Evening was held at the Stocks Inn, Furzehill on Saturday 11th November.
The evening was opened with a few words from the Guest of Honour – Barbara Wareing who thanked the club for the support the club had given her and the send off we had given her husband Bob (the club’s long standing TT secretary) who sadly passed away earlier this year.
A moments silence was spent remembering Bob and other club members we had lost this year (Peter Boston, Dennis Trevisone, and John Mortimer).
The members shared cycling stories and plans for next season over an excellent 3 course meal before the prize giving.
The prize giving was opened by President Peter Warhurst who reiterated what a friendly club BJW is and welcomed our new members.
Thank you to Kev Ridge who organised the excellent evening at a venue with great food, service and atmosphere.

Many thanks to you all.
It was muddy and we had a few (minor) falls, but no injuries. Lots of happy, muddy faces at the end.
They all said they’ll be back in two weeks’ time.
