BJW to Host and Promote the National 10 TT Championships

cycling-time-trials-300x255

As some members may already be aware the club has agreed to act as the promoting club for this year’s RTTC National 10 mile time trial championships. Previous winners of the event include Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Boardman and Beryl Burton. This will take place on the weekend of 11th & 12th September. The South District committee decided they wanted to use a course that was non-dual carriageway and ‘sporting” in terms of its profile. Subsequently, they have approached BJW and sounded us out about using the P454 course which has been used for the ‘sporting’ 40k open event (organised by John O’Brien) that we have run for the past few years. It is also the same circuit that we used for the Stage Race in 2019.

The circuit runs from Wool to the Burngate turn before West Lulworth, turning left down to East Lulworth, past the castle gates and then out to West Holme turning left along Bindon Lane before finishing on the edge of Wool village.

Saturday 11th September (afternoon) will see the Juniors and Ladies championships, while Sunday 12th (morning) will see the Men’s championships.

We will need a large number of volunteers to be able to deliver a quality event on both days: with up to 240 entries on each day, the event will last 4 hours at a maximum. We will require volunteers to:

· Act as Timekeepers/Recorders/’Spotters’ (South District will help provide the timekeepers)

· Help provide the Results service.

· Staff the ‘Sign-on’

· Marshalling the car park

· Marshall junctions/points on the course: this will be the key task we need to fill.

· Sign the course/remove signs post event

It would be great if every club member could commit to helping on a least one of the days: it’s not every day we get to run a National Championship! It’s an honour to host the event and a recognition of the club that South DC believe we can successfully organise the event. Please add the dates to your diary!

If you are able to confirm that you can help out over that weekend then please contact Bob Richardson – who is acting as race organiser – chairman@bjw.org.uk, letting him know your availability. The more people who commit, the better the event will be!
