An honorary Life Membership has been awarded to Peter Warhurst for services to the Club.
Peter joined the Jubilee in 1986 shortly after he moved to Bournemouth. Timekeeper Peter (along with Peter Boston and Jackie Prosser (as recorder)) has officiated pretty much every club Tuesday time trial since, as well as the Club Open events.
Peter has been a long-standing committee member. He was TT Secretary for a few years before taking the roll of Treasurer. A post he has held for the last 12 years. In addition Peter has organised around 25 Open time trials including the last 10 years of the Open 100.
Peter is trying to take a small step back now. He is filling in Timekeeping duties when others are not available. This year he has also stepped down as Treasurer. The committee aren’t ready to let him go completely as he still retains Membership Secretary duties!
Some notable achievements in Peter’s Palmares are as follows:
Joined Southgate CC in North London in 1949 at age 16 (still a member of Southgate to this day)
Broke over 20 Southgate CC club records in the 1950s
4 times Southgate CC Club/BAR champion
Sept 1955 broke RRA Tandem Pembroke-London (242 mile) record by 45 minutes with Tandem partner Graham Winkworth
Sept 1955 (3 weeks later) broke RRA Tandem London–Portsmouth-London (140 mile) record by 5 seconds with Tandem partner Graham Winkworth
1 BCF 1st Cat win in 1957
Various posts on Southgate CC committee and event organiser
The committee thanks Peter for his services to the Club.
