Shaftesbury club ride – Club Run Report
Nine people met for the first winter club ride, we headed out via Blandford up towards Winterbourne Stickland followed by the long drag to Child Okeford via Turnworth. Then it was off towards Shaftesbury via St Johns hill. A quick break at the café and then headed back via Zig Zag hill and down pass the Larmer Tree to Horton Inn where right onto the return leg of the BJW club 10 course into Wimborne. Just under 70 miles for me back to Corfe Mullen.
It was great to see a good turnout for the first winter ride, I just wanted to comment on the unwritten etiquette of the traditional club run, the intention is that this is not a road race but is a group ride at a steady pace. By riding as a group we can all benefit from working together, no one will get lost riding off the front and no one will be dropped of the back. If people find the ride too slow perhaps consider a heavier winter bike or taking a longer turn at the front. If the latter, please consider the people behind as riding every one off your wheel breaks the group up. I fully understand that we all have a different pace riding up longer climbs so please wait and re group at the top. I’m keen in encouraging new people to come and enjoy our club rides and don’t won’t new comers put off – if anyone has any comments or suggestions how this could run better please let me know.
